BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - State and local leaders are bringing good news to hundreds of Buffalo homeowners Thursday.

Many will not have to carry extra homeowners insurance after all thanks to a revised flood plain map.

It is the day thousands of homeowners here have been waiting for, the official signing of a new flood map bill that will keep them from paying any more unnecessary flood insurance.

Simon said, "FEMA's been taking money out of this neighborhood for years and years and years and years."

It's been a long battle for thousands of homeowners across South Buffalo and the old first ward.

They've been paying for flood insurance they say they never should have had to in the first place.

Their fight finally paid off now that FEMA has re-worked the 100 year flood plain map, which gives relief to more than three thousand people living between Cazenovia Creek and the Buffalo River.

South Buffalo resident John Lobelle said, "I have lived in that area for 50 years, I have never seen a flood, it would take an act of God to have a flood in those areas."

Representative Brian Higgins (D-27th District) said, "We found success by being very, very consistent and presenting our information in a very very compelling way."...
